Hi there! I’m Lynn Bowman, a Licensed Professional Counselor offering in-person therapy in Michigan and virtual therapy for clients throughout both Michigan and Ohio. I specialize in working with anxiety, depression, eating disorders, body image concerns, maternal mental health, and life transitions. My approach to therapy is rooted in empathy, active listening, and genuine human connection. My clients value honesty, humor, and authenticity, and I believe wholly in their innate wisdom and ability to grow.
Beyond being a psychotherapist, I’m also an artist, mother, daughter, and — most importantly — a fellow human being. I grew up in Eastern Iowa along the Mississippi River but have called the middle of the mitten home for the last 12 years.
When I’m not seeing clients, I enjoy hiking with my Boxer dogs, raising a curious kid, and searching for the next great cup of coffee. You can also often find me listening to true-crime podcasts or teaching and choreographing in the dance studio.
I believe therapists should go to therapy (hi Jane—I love my therapist!) and that the power of community, even just one safe connection, can lead to radical healing. If I’m asking my clients to do the hard work of growth and change, I believe I should be doing my own work, too.
I am currently accepting new clients and accept most major health insurance plans, so if you're looking for a therapist who is direct, laidback, and occasionally (or maybe frequently!) swears, let's connect. Being invited into someone’s healing process is a deep honor and privilege, and I never take that lightly.

Served at the Center of Hope Counseling in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, a private practice specializing in eating disorders and body image concerns, before launching Lynn Bowman Therapy.

My approach to therapy is rooted in person-centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and mindfulness-based practices. I believe therapy should feel collaborative, compassionate, and practical. Together, we’ll explore patterns, build coping tools, strengthen self-awareness, and create meaningful change that aligns with your values and goals. As both a therapist and lifelong artist, I deeply believe creativity, movement, and expression can be powerful parts of healing. While sessions are grounded in traditional psychotherapy, I honor the ways our bodies, stories, emotions, and creativity all intersect.
I work with people who are ready for change, even if they’re not quite sure where to start. I help clients who:
Therapy with me is collaborative, relational, and growth-oriented. I’ll support you deeply, but I’ll also gently challenge patterns that may be keeping you stuck. Therapy works best when you feel safe, grounded, and comfortable. I don't expect my clients to be polished, prepared, or have everything figured out before we begin. You’re welcome exactly as you are.
We might not be a fit if:
Want to ask about something else? Get in touch.
Everyone’s needs are different, and therapy is not one-size-fits-all. Some clients attend weekly sessions, while others prefer bi-weekly or monthly support. I also work with clients on an as-needed basis after regular therapy has ended. Sessions are available both in-person and virtually, or as a flexible hybrid. Together, we’ll decide what best supports your comfort, consistency, and goals.
Individual therapy sessions start at $160/session. For more information on couples/group rates, contact us.
Session payments may be made using all major credit cards, HSA/FSA cards, or through most major health insurance plans. We can discuss payment and insurance options in more detail one on one to find the best option for you.
I work with clients ages 13 and older. If you’re looking for a pediatric therapist, I recommend Pleasant Psychology in Mount Pleasant, which specializes in working with children and adolescents.
Yes. Confidentiality is one of the most important parts of the therapeutic relationship. What you share in session stays between us, and you’ll receive informed consent paperwork outlining exactly how your privacy is protected. I will never share information with anyone, including other providers, without your written permission.
There are, however, a few legal and ethical exceptions where I may be required to disclose information to help keep you or others safe. As a mandated reporter, I am required to act if:
If these situations ever arise, we will navigate them together with care and transparency whenever possible.
Your first session is a chance for us to slow down, get to know each other, and begin exploring what brought you to therapy.
We’ll discuss:
I’ll guide the conversation with thoughtful questions, but never in an overwhelming or rapid-fire way. You’re always welcome to share at your own pace and ask me questions, too.
There’s no universal timeline for therapy. Some clients meet their goals within a few months, while others continue therapy for years as part of ongoing support and self-care.
My goal is to support you for as long as therapy feels helpful and meaningful to you. When you feel confident in the progress you’ve made, we’ll collaboratively discuss whether it feels like the right time to reduce sessions or wrap up our work together. Some clients pause therapy and return later during periods of transition or increased stress, and I’m always happy to reconnect when needed.
Ending therapy is always a collaborative decision. I will never simply tell you, “I think you’re done.” At the same time, I may gently reflect when I notice growth and ask how you feel about spacing sessions out or taking a pause.
When we decide together that it’s time to end therapy, I typically recommend a closing session to reflect on your growth, process the ending, and discuss next steps.
Great question! I call this seeing your therapist in the wild. If we happen to run into each other outside the office, I’ll follow your lead. To protect your privacy and confidentiality, I won’t initiate contact or acknowledge our therapeutic relationship unless you choose to.
If you say hello, I’m always happy to say hi back. And if you’d rather not interact, that’s completely okay too. Your comfort and privacy will always come first.
Your appointment time is reserved specifically for you. I require at least 48 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling requests. Without 48 hours’ notice the full session fee of $160 will be charged. No-shows are also charged the full fee. That said, life happens. I offer one grace late cancellation or no-show per client. After that, late cancellations, reschedules, and no-shows will be charged in full, and of course, exceptions may be made in cases of emergency or sudden illness at my discretion.
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining the expected cost of your medical care. Under the No Surprises Act, healthcare providers are required to provide estimates to clients who do not have insurance or choose not to use insurance. The purpose of this law is to help protect consumers from unexpected medical bills and provide greater transparency around healthcare costs before services begin.
